FAQ Mold

What is included in a mold test?

Starting services include a baseline outdoor air sample that will be compared to inside air reading. Psychometric air readings will be recorded to check if air is conducive for mold growth. Moisture content readings will also be recorded to verify surfaces capability of growth. Photo documentation will be used. Lab analysis of all air samples will be analyzed. Typed report will include all above recorded data.

What are the Standards for a pass or fail Mold Air Test?

-Indoor spore count should be lower inside than outside count 

  -If 1 spore or more of either Chaetomium or Stachybotrys is detected automatic failure due to health concerns and points to possible rotting structure.

-No individual spore identified should be 10x greater inside than outside 

*Visual inspection of growth and/or water damage that is observed may not be airborne but should warrant means for caution.

How can I tell if I have the "black mold" ?

The term black mold is is an incorrect term. This term is more of an internet myth than a true mold spore. This has come about and is a broad term for types of mold spores that can be unhealthy. The word black only refers the color and has no bearing on the type of mold that is present. There  Chaetomium or Stachybotrys spore are the closet type of mold than be classified as more harmful types of spores to one persons health. 

How much Mold can make you sick?

 At present there are no Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or National Institute Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) standards for permissible exposure limits for mold.

FAQ Asbestos

Is Asbestos Harmful ?

Only if the Fibers are airborne. Asbestos fibers become airborne when it is disturbed. If you inhale or accidentally swallow asbestos, the microscopic fibers can get stuck in your lungs and stay there for years. Over time, they cause inflammation and scarring, which can lead to cancer.

When Should I Test my house for Asbestos ?

Residentially DHEC recommends testing materials that are from  1980 or before. A minimum of 3 samples of each material should be tested. Larger quantities of materials could require more samples needed. Commercial and Public properties have different standards. Call for a consultation for these standards.

How can I tell if Asbestos is in my Air ?

Only Air monitoring services can detect the levels of airborne asbestos fibers. The clearance level for this is .010 fibers per cubic meter. Call and schedule to your test. 

Why was Asbestos used ?

 Asbestos was used extensively in home construction from the early 1940s through the 1970s as highly-effective and inexpensive fire-retardant material and thermal and acoustic insulator 

What materials might have asbestos in my house ?

Roofing and Siding. Textured paint and patching compounds used on walls and ceilings. Walls and floors around wood-burning stoves protected with asbestos paper, millboard, or cement sheets. Hot water and steam pipes coated with asbestos material or covered with an asbestos blanket or tape. Select floor coverings as well.
