The Problem: Mold Can Hide Anywhere

Mold spores are invisible to the naked eye and can grow behind walls, under flooring, in attics, and anywhere moisture is present. Even spaces that look clean can harbor mold that affects your indoor air quality. Common signs include musty odors, unexplained allergies, persistent headaches, sneezing, and visible discoloration on surfaces.

Without professional testing, there is no reliable way to know exactly what types of mold are present, how concentrated they are, or whether your indoor air quality poses a health risk. The term "black mold" is largely a misconception — the color of mold has no bearing on its type. What matters is the species and concentration identified through lab analysis.

Our Solution: Science-Based Mold Inspection

A1 Air Quality Consultants uses proven, industry-standard methods to test your indoor air and surfaces for mold. Our inspection process is thorough, data-driven, and designed to give you clear, actionable results you can share with remediation contractors.

Our Mold Inspection Process

1

Baseline Outdoor Sample

We collect an outdoor air sample to establish a comparison baseline against indoor readings.

2

Indoor Air Sampling

Air samples from areas of concern identify airborne mold spores and their concentrations.

3

Moisture & Psychrometric Readings

We record moisture content and psychrometric data to determine if conditions support mold growth.

4

Lab Analysis & Report

Samples go to a certified lab. Your report includes all data, photos, and clear recommendations.

How We Interpret Your Mold Results

Our reports follow the most recognized testing standards in the industry. Here is how we evaluate your results:

  • Indoor spore counts should be lower than outdoor counts.
  • If one or more spores of Chaetomium, Memnoniella, or Stachybotrys are detected indoors, it is an automatic area of concern due to health implications and possible structural issues.
  • No single identified spore type should be more than 10 times greater indoors than the outdoor baseline.
  • Visual observations of growth or water damage are documented even if spores are not yet airborne.

Currently there are no CDC or NIOSH standards for permissible exposure limits for mold. This is exactly why working with an experienced, independent testing company matters — our 25+ years of experience give us the knowledge to properly interpret results and provide meaningful recommendations.

Turnaround Time

FAQ

Mold Testing FAQs

If you notice musty odors, visible discoloration, unexplained allergies or headaches, recent water damage, or humidity problems, professional mold testing can identify whether mold is present and what types are in your air. Even clean-looking spaces can harbor hidden mold behind walls and under flooring.
Air sampling captures airborne mold spores to measure what you are breathing. Surface testing — including swab and tape lift samples — identifies mold growing on specific materials. We typically recommend both for a complete picture of your indoor environment.
The term "black mold" is not a scientific classification — it refers only to color and has no bearing on the type of mold present. Chaetomium, Memnoniella, and Stachybotrys are the spore types most commonly associated with health concerns. Our lab analysis specifically identifies these and all other mold species present in your samples.
